New Yandex.Server released

Yandex.Server New Yandex.Server was released. Yandex.Server is a server application for searching files on web servers or local networks which uses the technologies of the major Yandex search. In the new version the developers paid special attention to the quality of search and added new features for ranking management.

Now you can relocate the found documents on the first or the last position in the search results having stated the queries and the link to the document that has to be made the first or the last one. Why do you need it? Corporate websites, for example, may use this option to put the employee's biography on the first place when the search query contains his name. And online shops may display the page of a certain product in the first place when the search query contains the name of the product.

In the new version of Yandex.Server link ranking is realized. It takes into account the links referring to the document while calculating its relevance. The list of supported documents has been extended: MS Office 2007, Open Office, and PDF files of the 1.7 version.

Yandex.Server

Yandex.Server is a product for enterprise search and/or search on web servers which provides full-text search of information taking into account the morphology of the Russian language on you web server or in the enterprise network (intranet).

No matter how well you have thought out the structure of your site or files and folders in the enterprise network of your company, the availability of easy-to-use search is a real necessity. If your server or enterprise network are constantly expanding, the site visitors or employees of your company will find it more and more difficult to search for necessaty information. Quick and easy search with the help of Yandex.Server is the solution for the problem.

One installation of Yandex.Server allows to index and find required information on several websites at once. The sites do not necessarily have to be physically located on the computer where Yandex.Server is installed. Besides, Yandex.Server can be used in enterprise networks; it can index information directly from the hard disk drive and available network resources.

You can configure Yandex.Server with the adjustment to the specific conditions of your server. You can state the directories which must be indexed and specify the directories that must be excluded from indexing, choose the encoding for the Russian language, specify whether the whole index should be reconstructed by new indexing or organize updating and conflation, launch scheduled indexing.

The search takes into account the morphology of the Russian, Engilsh, and Ukrainian languages, just like Yandex Web search. For example, if such query as “go” has been specified, the search results will include links to the documents which contain such word forms as “go”, “goes”, “went”, “gone” etc.

The search results consist in the list of documents which are arranged according to their relevance. The relevance takes into account not only the number of found documents but also the contrast of words (the frequency of usage) and distance between the words. The words that participate in the query are highlighted both in the document and on the search results page. The search form and the search results page may have arbitrary design.

From the technological point of view Yandex.Server is a specialized HTTP server which works on a separate port. Therefore you can send a request to the server and receive search results from any location in the network. The application is adjusted via a text configuration file. There are several versions of the program for various operating systems. In Unix environment Yandex.Server functions as a daemon, and on MS Windows platform – as a service.
