In the long run search engine optimization contributes to the increase in the site's profitability; it means, that SEO has a positive influence on the financial well-being of the company. How can you improve a ready site?

If search engine optimization was not performed at the very beginning, at the stage of website development, received websites may not meet the requirements; they are incapable of performing their tasks and goals. However, there are several simple and accessible methods that allow to optimize websites without complete or partial redesign and modernization.

For example, you can supply all images on the site with such properties as alt and title. Alt attribute (alternative) contains the text that will provide the site visitors and search robots with necessary explanations in case when the images on the site are disabled, by accident or deliberately (for instance, in browser). Title attribute, in its turn, is responsible for the “hint” that is shown when the user hovers the mouse cursor over the image. Title attribute also works for the hyperlinks in the same way (<a> tag).

By the way, you can make the hyperlinks more convenient for the visitors, if you haven't made it before. Textual content of the links, the so-called anchor, must clearly inform the visitor about the pages referred to by the links. Besides, search engine optimization that uses keywords in anchors not only improves site navigation, but also ensures more effective promotion of the site in the search engines.

You can disable the background music quickly and with no harm for the main design of the site and its content. If you still need it, you have to disable the automatic playback during the load of site pages. As the practice shows, visitors are irritated by the music that starts playing automatically and cannot be stopped. If visitors are irritated by anything, they leave the site at once.

Search engine optimization in its “light version” (aimed at the increase in the effectiveness of promotion in the search engines) is performed quite easily. You can edit the titles of the site pages (the title is displayed in the top left part of the browser window) in accordance with the main keywords of the site. If you include the keywords into the page title, it will help the search robot to index it and increase its chances to get into the TOP of the search engine results page.

You can strengthen the keywords on the site. It also won't require fundamental changes in the structure or content of the site. It is enough to set the keywords off in large font size, strong, bold, italics etc. Such element of the page text as headings is extremely important for the search robots. However, you shouldn't use too many headings. The generally accepted rule is the following: no more that 1-2 h1 headings, a bit more h2 headings etc. Only competent use of headings can increase the site's rankings.

Search engine optimization of sites without radical changes in the structure or web design of the ready site is not always possible. For instance, if you need to change the font size on the site, you will probably need to reconsider the whole concept of website design. And if you need to add or delete a section, you will certainly need to change the whole structure of the site and edit broken links.

That is why search engine optimization should be performed in the process of website development and testing. In this case there are much more opportunities to correct the found mistakes, ensure high level of website usability and its effectiveness.
