Google PageRank (PR) is an algorithm for calculation of the page authority that is used by Google search engine.
Importance of Google PR
PageRank is a numerical value that characterizes the “significance” of a page in Google. The more links to the page exist, the more “significant” the page becomes. Besides, the “weight” of the page A is determined by the weight of the link that is transferred by the page B. Thus, PageRank is the method of calculation of the page weight through calculation of the significance of links that refer to it. PageRank is one of auxiliary factors of link ranking in the search engine results. PageRank is not the only one, but a very important factor, that determines the site ranking in the Google search results.
Use of PR in search engine optimization
Google does not take all links into account. The search engine filters off the links from the sites that are intentionally designed for link aggregation. Some links are not simply ignored by the search engines. They influence on the ranking of the referring site negatively (such effect is called search engine pessimization. Specialists of Google realize, that a webmaster is not able to influence on the inbound external links, but he fully controls outbound links from his site. That is why links to the site cannot harm it, in contrast to outbound links from the site.
Search engine optimization of a site includes not only well-thought-out link building between the target pages of the site aimed at the increase of their PageRank, but also elimination of outbound links that can harm the reputation of the site.
Use of PR in website promotion
Google uses PageRank in construction of the relevant list of the search engine results by a search query.
Google search mechanism

- ranking of the pages according to the weight of the keywords and words forms in the text;

Website promotion presumes first of all the increase of the link number of the site with the most effective anchor texts of the links for promotion of the site into the TOP of search results by target queries.
PageRank scale
PageRank scale – from 0 to 10. The division of the scale into units is based on logarithmic dependence or something very similar, but in no circumstances on equal apportionment. Re-calculation of the pages significance takes place during the so-called Google Dance. The gradation of Google PageRank is roughly the following: PageRank from 4 to 5 is typical for most websites with average popularity. 6 – a very well-promoted and popular website. 7 is a number that is practically unattainable for most of websites, but you still can meet it. Such values as 8, 9 and 10 are assigned to exceptionally popular and significant projects.
