In one of our articles (“Redesign. What is it?”) we have already considered the reasons that cause the necessity of site redesign. When a site owner needs complete or partial site redesign and contacts a web studio, it is very important for him to know what problems may appear in the process of site redesign and how to avoid these problems.
Usually specialists need certain initial data to carry out site redesign. It may be, for example, the source codes of the site. It is very important for the client to keep in mind, that a website may be considered a kind of a program written in one or several web programming languages. And, as is well known, to work with any program a developer needs its source code. If the customer cannot provide the source codes of the site site redesign becomes a much more complicated task. In this case it is sometimes easier to develop a new site from scratch than to carry out site redesign.
Developer may face a similar situation if the customer lost (or never had) access codes to the site. Usually these codes includes login and password that provide access to the domain and hosting control panels, site administration panel, as well as login and password that provides access to directories and rankings where the site is registered. If you lost access codes to the site, the inability to carry out site redesign is the least of all evils. In this case you might lose the domain. Be attentive as far as site access codes are concerned!
Some problems by site redesign may result from particular subjective circumstances. For instance if the real cost of site redesign turns out to be more than the customer have expected. Problems may also appear if the site is redesigned for the sake of redesign or just for fun. Such approach makes the costs for site redesign grow, and the profit out of it, on the contrary, reduces. Therefore the budget for site redesign should be thought out very thoroughly, after discussing the plan of actions and the cost of site redesign with the web design studio in advance.
Steep demands may also become the source of problems by site redesign. To the steep demands we refer the demands that cannot be satisfied technically (or satisfaction of these demands is pointless from the economic point of view). For example most of web studios will not guarantee the first place in the search results by high-frequency queries after site redesign, because it is impossible to predict the result with 100% accuracy. Therefore here is our advice – do not demand the impossible. If you carry out redesign of the website design, but preserve scanty and boring content, you won't receive the expected fabulous effect.
It is very difficult to carry out efficient site redesign if it has not been planned in advance, it the information concerning traffic statistics and tastes of the target visitors has not been taken into account. In this case the site will remain unpopular and non-profitable even after site redesign.
To avoid problems with site redesign (planned redesign or one of necessity) you should approach this question with all responsibility from the very beginning, thoroughly plan and think out all actions. Only in this case site redesign will be really effective!
