How to work with Google Analytics?
To start using all advantages of Google Analytics you have to register in the service. After the successful registration Google Analytics will offer you a special script that has been generated for your website. You should insert it into the html code of each page that you want to trace in Google Analytics. This script is placed right before the body of the page, i.e. before the </body> tag. This script does not influence on the page load and does not require download of additional files.
When you enter your Google Analytics page, you can see a small summary table representing the overview of your site. To study information of your site in more details, you should click on the “View report” link in the “Reports” column. Having clicked on the link, you can see the page with the following tabs available.
Dashboard. It serves for visualization of reports of the performed web analysis. The dashboard allows to place various reports in any order, for instance, visitors overview, traffic sources overview, map overlay etc.
Visitors. This tab shows full information about the visitors of your site. With the help of this tab you can receive full details about the number of visitors, absolute unique visitors, pageviews, average pageviews, time on site, bounce rate, new visits, visitors' languages, network locations, browsers, operating systems, screen colors and resolutions, Java and Flash support etc.
Traffic sources. This tab allows to learn the sources of traffic, the percentage of direct traffic, traffic from referring sites and search engines, the number of visits via keywords etc.
Content. Diagrams and tables of this tab show the most popular content on your website (the top content), navigation summary (how visitors found your content), entrance paths (paths visitors used to get your content), entrance sources and keywords (top sources and keywords per page).
Goals. A goal is a website page which a visitor reaches once he has made a purchase or completed another desired action, such as a registration or download. Goals allow to assess the correspondence of the site to the aims of your company. You can set up 20 goals in Google Analytics. TAGS
