We have already described a lot of methods of effective white hat promotion of websites in the section “Website promotion”.
These well-known and widespread methods of website promotion include various methods of attracting visitors (and, as a result, potential clients of a company) to a website. Some of these methods are so simple and evident, that a lot of people have just forgotten about them!
The most effective methods are at the same time the easiest ones. The first and the most important rule of website promotion says: “The site must work!” It means that it must be available for attendance and must not be “under reconstruction”, “on vacation” or simply absent for a long time.
There are a lot of situations in which a site may turn out temporary unavailable:
- Owners of the site have forgotten to pay for the prolongation of the hosting services or domain name.
- Owners of the site perform redesign of the site; they do it regularly and almost never cease the “repair work”.
- Owners of the site have decided to transfer it to a new hosting.
- Owners of the site have decided to change the name of the domain. If the site is not available by its old domain name, its former visitors will not be able to find it.
All the time while these problems are being solved the site does not function! It is very bad because some search engines may exclude the site from their bases if their search robots have made several unsuccessful attempts to index the site. Even if you manage to restore the operability of the site, you will have to start its promotion practically from scratch.
So how to escape outages in the functioning of the site or minimize the consequences of these outages?
First of all, you must always pay for the hosting services in time and prolong domain registration. If you forget to pay for the domain, you may lose it and someone else can buy your domain.
Secondly, when you perform redesign, you should always take into account the reasonability of this measure. If you perform redesign for the sake of redesign, you will not benefit from it. When you perform redesign, never erase the old version of the site before the new version is ready or at least almost ready.
The same rule concerns owners of sites who have decided to transfer their websites to another domain name. In this case you should leave the old version of the site on the old domain for some time. This time should be enough to inform as many former visitors as possible. Usually webmasters leave the message like “This site has moved to a new domain!” and state the new address of the site. Besides, many owners of sites leave the most important content on the old version of the site. For example, contact information of the company usually belongs to this important content.
Therefore, absence of outages in the functioning of the site provides reliability of the results of measures taken for its promotion.
