We have already considered the main kinds of spamdexing in the article “Black hat website promotion. Search spam”. Let us clear how exactly the search engines find and punish search spam.
We will remind you once more that search spam (spamdexing) includes methods of website promotion and rating increase which are forbidden by the search engines. Among these methods we can name cloaking (substitution of the page content) and doorway pages (pages with automatic redirect). Each search engine has its own definition of the notion of spamdexing and its own methods and criteria of its identification.
Search engines use three main methods to identify the search spam:
- automatic method;
- semiautomatic method;
- manual method;
Automatic method of detection of the search spam is based on the use of special software which has been developed for this very purpose. Each search engine has its own specialized software.
Semiautomatic method of detection of the search spam presupposes selection check of certain websites if the users of the search engine complain on spamdexing on these particular websites.
Manual method is based on moderating of the search engines by skilled specialists. This method is considered the most accurate as it is impossible to hide search spam from a specialist.
The most widespread methods of website promotion in the search engines with the help of spamdexing such as swapping, cloaking, doorways, hidden text and others are recognized by the search engines in the automatic mode and punished by exclusion of the site from the search engine results page. Such sites will not be indexed anymore. Therefore if you want successful promotion of your website you must not use black hat methods of website promotion.
