Website promotion is a whole complex of measures aimed at increase of site positions in search engine results page and, consequently, at increase of site effectiveness. There are many different methods and ways of website promotion: from “classical” to “unconventional”.
It is a common knowledge that website promotion in search engines requires thorough work with keywords. Keywords are selected according to the subject sphere of the site, they give an idea of the site content, its importance for the visitors.
Unconventional website promotion presupposes a new method of keyword selection which is somewhat different from the classical one. It is evident that Internet users can misspell or misprint some search queries which they enter into the search engine bar. That is why incorrect keywords are used in unconventional website promotion along with grammatically correct ones.
Taking into account that some words, for instance, the name of Icelandic glacier Eyjafjallajökull under which a recently erupted volcano is situated, are really very hard to write correctly, the percentage of “mistaking” users of the World Wide Web can be quite high. You cannot “miss” such users.
There are different types of misspellings which are successfully used for unconventional website promotion. Common misspellings are found in the words which are difficult to spell – for example, “asthetics” instead of “aesthetics”. Proper names (names of people, things and places with ambiguous spelling) are also quite often misspelled – compare “Britney Spears” and “Brittany Spears”. Simply typographical errors can also lead to misspellings. They occur when you type too fast and kind of “mix up” the letters – like in the phrase “wesbite pormotion”. Misspelled keywords can attract inattentive visitors to your site so they are often used in unconventional website promotion.
Along with different variants of words misspelling you should also take into account certain peculiarities of language of search queries. For instance, in the German and French languages the so-called diacritical marks (diacritics) are used. Some German words contain umlaut – a diacritical mark consisting of two dots above the letter like in word “Rücken” (back). If umlaut is not available on the keyboard the word should be typed as “Ruecken”. Such variant as “Rucken” is a misspelling but it can also be met. Search results for all three variants (“Rücken”, “Ruecken” and “Rucken”) will be different. It means that all these keywords should be used in website promotion if you want to embrace wider target audience.
Preferable form of keywords with diacritics will depend on the geographical targeting of your site. If your target visitors are native citizens from German-speaking countries, forms with umlaut are preferable. If your site is aimed at Germans living abroad it is better to choose forms where umlaut is replaced by “e”. But in any case you should use all forms of such words during website promotion!
It is noteworthy that website promotion which has earlier been considered unconventional today becomes classical. These days website promotion embraces all spheres of the human activity on the Internet. Social resources are especially notable for their participation in website promotion.
Besides well-known social networks modern Internet users also take part in other social web projects. For instance, questions and answers services of popular search engines offer all Internet users to get “live” answers to their questions.
Users ask a lot of various questions in these services. Starting from quite pragmatic questions such as “How to roast pumpkin seeds?” and ending with philosophical questions like “What is love?” and humorous like “Where is Chuck Norris?”. You can give the users answers to the questions they are interested in during website promotion – it will help you to attract visitors to your websites.
Unconventional website promotion can be very diverse. Every day users master more and more
facilities of search engines. Modern search engines offer not only traditional text search but also search in images, schemes and maps, books, audios, videos etc. That is why you should take into account all possible search variants during website promotion – only in this case you will be able to achieve success.
