Website promotion is a long and complex process. You should constantly monitor it in order to make required adjustments timely. If a site owner performs promotion of his website himself, and he is not actually a professional in this sphere, he may need additional tools. New opportunities offered by such services as Yandex.Webmaster and Yandex.Metrica will help him to carry out site promotion more efficiently.
If promotion of a site is carried out counting upon the Russian-speaking target audience, you can place a special counter provided by Yandex on your site. The counters of this popular search engine allow site owners to receive information about how Yandex indexes their websites, counts the number of visitors on the sites, records the actions of visitors on the sites etc. Such services for site owners as Yandex.Webmaster and Yandex.Metrica allow to form detailed reports based on the data provided by the counter.
Competently decoded web analysis data may turn out very useful when you have to choose an adequate website promotion strategy in the search engines. For instance, it is very important to have information about indexing of your site by Web crawlers: how often Web crawlers visit your site, which pages of your site may cause troubles etc.
Just a few days ago, on December 20, 2011, Yandex announced in its official blog that a new section of Yandex.Webmaster was launched. The new section of this popular service for webmasters is called Indexing History. Now site owners will be able to receive information about interaction of Yandex Web crawlers with their sites. This information will be presented in the form of diagrams.
“The number of requests” diagram displays the number of requests to the server where the site is hosted made by Yandex Web crawlers. All requests are displayed on the time scale. Therefore it is very easy to determine with what frequency Web crawlers visit the site. The diagram can display successful requests of Web crawlers to the server as well as unsuccessful requests (with connection errors or DNS errors).
“The HTTP status codes” diagram displays the information about the HTTP status codes received by Yandex Web crawlers when they accessed the site. This information is displayed on the time scale. The diagram may contain codes which mean that a Web crawler accessed the site successfully (OK) as well as HTTP status codes referring to redirection errors (3xx), client errors (4xx) or server errors (5xx).
Today website promotion is not just a “battle” for the best rankings. It is also the analysis of achieved site efficiency performance. Behavioral factors play a very important role in determining the efficiency of your site. For example, if you want to know how visitors interact with your site you can use WebVisor – a special tool which is a part of Yandex.Metrica service.
Some time ago WebVisor was available to a particular group of Yandex.Metrica users only, but from December 2011 it is available to everyone. WebVisor allows to record information concerning the behavior of visitors on a site for its further study and analysis.
WebVisor presents information about the visitors behavior in the form of a convenient table which contains the following information: how a visitor get to your site; where he is from (country and even city or town); how much time he spent on the site; what pages he visited and so forth.
A special appeal of WebVisor is its ability to provide video reports about recorded visits. A video report about a visit is a video which shows how the user's mouse cursor moved on the site (with path tracing), on what buttons or links mouse clicks were made. In this video you can also see from which page the user entered the site, what other pages of your site he saw during his visit, from which page he left the site. This information is of great interest when you study website usability.
